So the news has been out for about 24 hours now. The first actor to play Green Lantern in a live action film has been cast. For those that have lives and can escape the mighty vortex of the interweb from time to time, I’m sure you’re not aware that Ryan Reynolds is going to be busting heads in a skin tight green costume in Warner Bros. GREEN LANTERN film.

Of course, this film doesn’t plan to begin shooting until sometime early in 2010. So why am I wasting your damn time? Well…first of all, it’s what I do here at TOSHBLOGGED and second, if the news of a new GREEN LANTERN movie gives you somewhat of a little green chubby and can’t wait for the live action version, Warner Premiere will soon be releasing GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT on DVD and Blu-ray.

Blu-ray release on July 28th.

The animated Green Lantern film features the voice talents of Christopher Meloni of LAW & ORDER fame, Tricia Helfer better known as Number 6 in the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series and the one and only Michael Madsen. Yes the Michael Madsen who has played such iconic characters as Mr. Blonde in RESERVOIR DOGS and Glenn in FREE WILLY 2: THE ADVENTURE HOME.

In GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT, we get to see the origins of, in my opinion, the only true Green Lantern, Hal Jordan becoming our hero. There is an entire corps. of Green Lanterns which span across the universe and being the new blood, Hal is put under supervision of a veteran Lantern named Sinestro. As all of you comic aficionados out there know, Sinestro is Hal’s prime villain. In the film, Green Lantern stumbles upon a conspiracy within the Corps. and must learn his new found power fast in order to stop Sinestro and the threat of Galactic warfare.

With the news of the live action GREEN LANTERN finally cast in Ryan Reynolds, it is sure to bolster more interest in this character and therefore better sales of this blu-ray release. So get a copy for yourself on July 28th. You can let the kids watch, but apparently there is so much violence in this film it garnered a PG-13 rating. I love it when an animated film is PG-13.
